Gloria Sawai
has been a writer, editor and teacher. Her most famous short story,

in many anthologies and literary journals. A Song for Nettie
Johnson won the Henry Kreisel Award for Best First Book (Alberta
Book Awards) and the Danuta Gleed Award for best first collection
of short stories (Writers' Union of Canada). Her plays have been
produced by Alberta Theatre Projects and the Edmonton Fringe Festival.
Raised in Saskatchewan, Sawai now lives in Edmonton.

Roy Miki is
a writer, poet, editor and critic who teaches at Simon Fraser
University. He has taught and written about the work of bpNichol
for many years and edited Pacific Windows: Collected Poems
of Roy K. Kiyooka, which won the 1997 Poetry Award from the
Association of Asian-American Studies. His major study of George
Bowering won the Gabrielle Roy award for best book on Canadian
literature in 1991 from the Association for Canadian and Quebec
Literatures. Miki lives in Vancouver.

Kevin Kerr
is a founding member and co-Artistic Director of the Electric
Company Theatre in Vancouver, a collective with whom he's co-written
several plays including Brilliant!, The Wake and
The Score. He wrote Unity (1918) while playwright-in-residence
at Touchstone Theatre. He has received four Jessie Awards, both
solo and with the Electric Company. He studied theatre at UBC,
and has worked in theatre in the Yukon, B.C., and Quebec. Kerr
lives in Vancouver.

warrants a second and third visit. The elements Edwards has included
create visually pleasing as well as mentally stimulating illustrations.
This book won because it challenges and delights.
Wallace Edwards
is an artist and freelance illustrator. He is a graduate of the
Ontario College of Art, where he majored in illustration. Alphabeasts
is his first work for children. He generally works in watercolour
and pencil. He has created artwork for magazines, book and video
covers, posters and exhibit placards. Edwards lives in Toronto
and Yarker (near Kingston), Ontario.
