Ottawa, 14 September 2000 - The Canada Council Art Bank will be on tour in the Maritimes from September 18 - 29, 2000. Government, municipal and other public organizations as well as local private corporations will have the opportunity to visit the travelling exhibition and select art works for their offices and business spaces. The exhibition will be in Halifax from September 18 - 22 and in Moncton from September 26 - 29, and is not open to individuals. Art Bank representatives will also be in Charlottetown from September 22 - 25 to visit present or potential clients. The Art Bank will be visiting a number of clients in Fredericton, Saint John, and Shediac as well.
The exhibition is made up of about three hundred contemporary works by Canadian artists, with a significant number by regional artists including John Greer, Jacques Hurtubise and Ann Read from Nova Scotia; Molly Bobak, Thaddeus Holownia and Raymond Martin from New Brunswick; and Brian Burke, Nigel Rowe and Hilda Woolnough from Prince Edward Island.
The Canada Council Art Bank seeks to promote Canadian culture by renting out original works of art to public and private organizations. This art work rental service allows organizations to create a desirable work environment while establishing an innovative and prestigious professional public image. With some 17,000 works (paintings, sculptures, photographs, drawings and prints) by more than 2,500 artists, the Art Bank holds the largest collection of contemporary art in Canada. In addition to rentals, the Bank offers a range of complementary services (professional consultation, transportation, and installation of works).
To visit the exhibition, please contact Louise Pelland, Art Consultant, and Steve Allen, Technician, at the following cellular phone number (613) 298-1201, or call Martha Young at (613) 566-4414 or 1 800 263-5588, ext. 4069.
