AWARDS CEREMONY: 16 NOVEMBER
1999 Awards will be presented at Rideau Hall
(the residence of the Governor General of Canada in Ottawa)
by Her Excellency the Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson
on November 16 at 4:00 pm at a ceremony followed
by a reception and dinner (by invitation only).
NATIONAL LIBRARY OF CANADA: 17 NOVEMBER

SALON DU LIVRE DE MONTRÉAL: 18-23 NOVEMBER
French-language winners will be present at the
Salon du livre de Montréal where the Canada Council will
have a stand. Among other activities - A round-table
hosted by Jean Fugère on 20 November at 4:00 pm
1999 marks the 63rd presentation of the Governor General's Literary Awards. This year 1,146 books were submitted for the 14 Awards (7 in English and 7 in French) in the categories of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, drama, translation, children's text and children's illustration.
The Canada Council for the Arts presents, administers and promotes these 14 awards, worth $10,000 each. The Council also administers the process of peer evaluation, which involves 42 members of the literary community from across Canada.
