Program Description
The Canada Council for the Arts provides support to book publishers participating in the Book Publishing Support: Emerging Publisher or Block Grants programs for a portion of the costs of author promotion tours. The tours must give greater public and media exposure to the publishers’ current publication programs.

Eligibility
Note that meeting the eligibility criteria does not guarantee that you will receive a grant.
Assistance is available for tours by Canadian authors, illustrators or translators of titles that are eligible under the Canada Council for the Arts Book Publishing Support: Emerging Publisher or Block Grants programs. Assistance is not available for tours by writers who own, or are employed by, the publishing house that is applying.
Please consult the Book Publishing Support application guidelines (either the Emerging Publisher Grants or Block Grants component) to determine title eligibility.
Eligible promotional activities include launches, book signings, interviews with the media and public readings.
Tours must be carried out within 12 months of the title’s publication. The tour must include at least two promotional activities in each city on the tour, and authors must travel at least 100 kilometers from their normal place of residence.
Funding is intended for tours within Canada only.

Grant amount
A maximum of $1,500 is allowed for each author each year (or for each title each year in the case of co-authored titles). The maximum amount available to one book publisher for a single year is $20,000.
Strategic Market and Innovation Fund for Book Publishers
The Strategic Market and Innovation Fund for Book Publishers is a temporary component of the Book Publishing Support: Author Promotion Tours program. It aims to give financial assistance to help address current challenges for independent publishers in this period of technological change.
The Strategic Market and Innovation Fund targets one-time initiatives that will develop infrastructure for long-term benefits. These initiatives could be strategies that broaden market access, or create tools adapted for digital environments, or develop best practices, and may include new partnerships.
This component is open to literary publishers that have been receiving Book Publishing Support grants from either the Block Grants or the Emerging Publisher program for the past two years.
Applications may be submitted by one eligible publisher or by a group of eligible publishers who will contribute equally to carrying out the project and who will each derive equivalent benefits.
The maximum grant amount is $15,000 for individual projects and $30,000 for group projects (two or more eligible book publishers).
