Professional Music Organizations Program: Annual and Multi-Year Funding

Program Description
This program has three distinct components: Performing Music Organizations, Networks and National Arts Service Organizations. Each component is designed to address the specific needs and challenges of the three areas with a dedicated peer review process.
The Professional Music Organizations Program offers: multi-year (two years) and annual operating funding.
Project funding has its own guidelines and application form.
The Performing Music Organizations component supports the overall activities of small, Canadian professional ensembles/bands/groups that have demonstrated ongoing yearly stability, planning and artistic excellence. Its particular emphasis is on encouraging the performance of music played or composed by Canadian artists and creating opportunities for the presentation of Canadian music.
The Networks component offers operating funding to support the activities of Canadian Networks. Its particular emphasis is on encouraging the performance of music played or composed by Canadian professional artists in underserved communities.
The National Arts Service Organizations component offers operating support to Canadian national arts service organizations whose primary focus is supporting and developing the vitality of the professional music community. The activities of these service organizations, groups or associations provide assistance to their members who are directly involved in the creation, production and presentation of music works.
Eligibility
Performing Music Organizations Component
To be eligible to apply to this component, your organization must meet all of the following criteria. It must:
- be a registered non-profit Canadian professional group/ensemble
- have completed at least two seasons of local performances
- have a consistent core of musicians
- have an administrative infrastructure in keeping with the nature of your artistic production
- have a board of directors
- not carry an accumulated deficit that threatens the viability of your organization
- receive financial support from other levels of government and/or private sources
- have been successful with a series of concerts in each of the last two competitions of the former Concert Production and Rehearsal Program or be successful with two consecutive applications to the Production Grants in Music Program or a combination of both.
Networks Component
To be eligible to apply to this component, your organization must meet all of the following criteria. It must:
- be a registered non-profit Canadian Network and have been in operation for at least two years
- act as curator (programmer) and facilitator of music performances staged by community presenters
- have an administrative infrastructure in keeping with the scope of your activities
- not carry an accumulated deficit that threatens the viability of your organization
- receive financial support from other levels of government and/or private sources.
National Arts Service Organizations Component
To be eligible to apply to this component, your organization must meet all of the following criteria. It must:
- be a Canadian, non-profit incorporated national organization, group or association
- have the mandate to represent professional musicians and/or music organizations at the national level, either directly or through partnership
- be the main organization representing your artistic genre or specialization, as demonstrated by your membership
- make a significant contribution to serving the needs of Canadian musicians and/or music organizations engaged in creating, producing and disseminating music works (illustrated by your action plan, track record and contribution to the community you serve through a range of activities encompassing research and analysis, communication and marketing, and professional development)
- have been in operation for at least two years
- demonstrate sound financial management
- have self-generated revenues that include other sources of funding.
Once you have determined that your organization meets the eligibility criteria, you are advised to contact the program officer to confirm your eligibility.
Grant Amount
The peer assessment committee that evaluates the applications recommends funding priorities and establishes the final amount of the Canada Council’s contribution to the applicant’s proposed activities.
