Deadlines

1 May, for festivals occurring after this deadline. 

15 November, for festivals occurring after this deadline.

If either date falls on a weekend or statutory holiday, the deadline moves to the next business day. Your completed application and all support material must be postmarked on or before the deadline date.

The Canada Council will not accept applications postmarked after the deadline, incomplete applications, or those submitted by fax or email. You will not be contacted if your application is incomplete.

Program Description

The Dance Presenter Support: Festivals program aims to efficiently administer applications from festivals for travel-related expenses of programmed national and international dance artists.  Eligible costs include travel, accommodation and per diem (to a maximum contribution of $125 a day per person) and freight.  This is project support; applicants are not guaranteed regular funding.

Definition of a festival for this program:

This program supports annual or biennial festivals that celebrate and showcase professional dance in a concentrated period of time. They must be non-profit organizations with a clear vision of supporting dance artists and building audiences for dance. To be eligible, festivals must:

  • extend over a period of four consecutive days to three consecutive weeks
  • include at least four full-length live performances (45 minutes or more)
  • present a mimimum of two distinct programs of artists, and
  • engage six or more professional dance ensembles, some of whom are from outside the province/territory.

Program Objectives

The objectives of this program are to support festivals that:

  • have a strong artistic vision and clear programming direction
  • provide career and professional development opportunities for programmed dance artists through the festival
  • connect with their local dance milieu and audiences.

Eligibility

To be eligible, dance festivals must be non-profit organizations that:

  • program dance as a dominant artistic activity of the festival
  • have as their mission the presentation of works of professional dance artists
  • operate an annual or biennial festival and have already produced one professional dance festival prior to the application deadline
  • pay a guaranteed fee to professional artists for festival presentations
  • provide the venue, plus technical and promotional support for the presentation
  • have an administrative infrastructure to support the project
  • receive support from other sources, such as municipal, provincial/territorial and private sources
  • charge an admission fee to the public
  • maintain separate, clear and exact accounts for the festival’s activities.

Grant Amount

Grant amounts are a contribution towards travel, freight, accommodation and per diem costs. Applicants may receive less than the full amount requested.
