Dance Presentation Program: Support to Presenters

Program Description
The Dance Presentation Program: Support to Presenters program has six components: Foreign Artists’ Tours, Commissions/Co-productions, Creative Residencies, Visiting Dance Professionals, Choreographic Workshops/Labs and Strategic Collaborations.
The program offers support to Canadian presenters of dance. Grants are intended to:
- foster dance programming that demonstrates elements of innovation and risk
- extend, deepen and enrich existing relationships and cultivate new partnerships among local, national, and international artists and presenters
- increase creation, performance and visibility opportunities for professional dance artists and companies
- provide enhanced creative and professional development opportunities and working conditions for Canadian dancers and choreographers
- increase the quality of dance presentation in Canada, build presentation capacity and strengthen the network of Canadian presenters of dance
- strengthen and deepen the relationships between Canadian presenters and the local dance communities they serve
- provide Canadian audiences with enhanced opportunities to view a diversity of dance forms and increase audience appreciation for the art of dance.
Eligibility of Applicant
To be eligible to apply, your organization must be a Canadian dance presenter. For this program, the Dance Section defines dance presenters as incorporated organizations that:
- select artists or groups of artists for programming purposes
- assume all or part of the financial risk, and
- oversee all aspects of presenting works to audiences.
In addition to meeting the above definition of a dance presenter, your organization must:
- be a non-profit organization and be incorporated in Canada
- be directed by dance professionals and (or) community leaders
- have as its mission the presentation of works by professional artists
- have a history of public presentation or production of dance (if your organization has less than a three-year history, the track record of the artistic director/programmer will be taken into consideration)
- operate on a seasonal basis or be attempting to operate on a continuous basis
- pay guaranteed fees to professional artists for public performances
- have an appropriate administrative infrastructure to support the project(s), and
- receive support from sources other than the Canada Council, such as other levels of government and (or) private sources.
Grant Amount
- Component I: Foreign Artists’ Tours
The maximum grant available is $50,000.
- Component II: Commissions/Co-productions
The maximum grant available is $20,000.
- Component III: Creative Residencies
The maximum grant available is $30,000.
- Component IV: Visiting Dance Professionals
The maximum grant available is $5,000.
- Component V: Choreographic Workshops/Labs:
The maximum grant available is $15,000.
- Component VI: Strategic Collaborations
The maximum grant available is $30,000.
