Alberta Creative Development Initiative
Final competition
The Alberta Creative Development Initiative (ACDI) has ended. The last competition deadline (artists) was November 1, 2011. The results of this competition will be available in February 2012.
Impact of ACDI
Since ACDI was launched in 2007, more than 1500 eligible artist projects and 300 arts organizations’ projects were assessed by peer committees in all art forms.
ACDI has provided support to 120 projects from arts organizations, with more than $2.6 million in funding invested in festivals, dance and theatre companies, artist-run centres and galleries, and media arts organizations. To date, $4.7 million has been allocated to 346 recipients, supporting artistic projects in research and creation, production, dissemination, or professional development.
Besides allocating grants, the ACDI also took part in outreach activities throughout the Alberta that helped artists and arts organizations to learn more about funding programs and assessment process used by the Canada Council and its partners.
More than 25 information sessions and grant-writing workshops were held in Edmonton, Calgary, Fort Mc Murray, Red Deer, Lethbridge, Grande-Prairie and Medicine Hat.
Representatives of the ACDI partners regularly attended key events – roundtables and tri-level meetings – in Alberta’s various arts communities.
ACDI in brief
ACDI was a partnership between the Canada Council for the Arts and the Alberta Foundation for the Arts (AFA), in collaboration with the Calgary Arts Development Authority (CADA) and the Edmonton Arts Council (EAC).
Its objectives were to support the development of professional artists and arts organizations in Alberta and to foster a dynamic, vibrant arts community in the province. Its activities aimed to foster a sustainable relationship between the arts community and the funding agencies and to ensure a smooth transition to applying to applying to existing grants once ACDI had ended.
This page will soon include additional information about ACDI and the vibrant Albertan arts community, as well as useful resources for artists and arts organizations (e.g. granting programs, arts services organizations, contacts). In the meantime, explore the Canada Council website to find application deadlines, and also our partners’ websites: Alberta Foundation for the Arts, Edmonton Arts Council, and Calgary Arts Development Authority.
Congratulations!
Thanks and congratulations to all the artists, arts administrators and arts organizations who submitted applications and received grants during the five years of ACDI.
