Advisory Committee for Racial Equality in the Arts (REAC)
REAC (the Advisory Committee for Racial Equality in the Arts) provides advice and makes recommendations on policies, programs and issues to advance cultural diversity and racial equity in the arts.
The Committee is made up of 5-7 arts professionals who:
- have knowledge of a variety of artistic practice
- are involved in advancing equity in the arts
- represent various regions of Canada, genders, generations, artistic disciplines, cultural diversity and both official languages
The Committee has been providing input to the Canada Council since it was formed in 1990. It is one of the many ways that the Equity Office consults with the arts community. Reporting to the Equity Office, it meets at least once a year in person, and also by conference call and regional or individual meetings as needed.
