Howard Jang

(Vancouver, British Columbia)

Trained first as a musician, Howard Jang appreciates both the importance of artistic vision and the requirement for strong financial and strategic planning to support it. He has extensive training and experience in performing arts management in both a professional and a volunteer capacity.

At Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business, he completed the National Arts Strategies Executive Program for Leaders in the Non-Profit Arts.   He began his arts administrative career with the Orchestra of St. Luke’s (NYC) and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.  He has served as Executive Director of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, Ballet British Columbia and, since 2000, Vancouver’s Arts Club Theatre.

He has been an active member of many volunteer boards and committees, including the Canadian Arts Summit, Orchestras Canada, the Manitoba Arts Stabilization, Inc., Tourism Winnipeg, Tourism Vancouver (Chair), the Vancouver Alliance for Arts and Culture and the Greater Vancouver Professional Theatre Alliance. A past member of the Professional Association of Canadian Theatres (PACT), he has also served on the Vancouver Foundation’s Arts & Culture Advisory Committee, BC Arts Council and City of Vancouver Arts Assessment juries and on the Canada Council’s Theatre Advisory Committee.

Howard Jang was appointed as a member of the Board of Directors of the Canada Council for the Arts for a four-year term effective April 2, 2012 to April 1, 2016.
